So in the beginning of the absolutely lovely and exceptionally draining year that was 2020, there was the whole COVID-19 "Novel Virus" outbreak. With Visker owning two tourism based businesses and Banana being in the service industry, all life and sources of income as we knew, ended. Rather than sit around and just worry about life and personal sustainability, we decided to take the meager amount of cash and credit that we had remaining and start something new. Two months of extensive closedown research & fabrication (with some loving help from the wealth of information that is Reddit (and amazing direct input from Visker's Chef friends) sent us down the exciting new path of converting the majority of our living spaces into an efficient and concise urban gourmet mushroom farm. All of this within the heart of Historic Downtown of Galveston Island.
We take orders by email via our contact information on the website here. Want some? Here is how it works, just email us and we will let you know what we have currently fruiting and prices by weight. Respond with how much you would like and pay the invoice we send you. Our store has information about each type of mushroom, but you cannot order them from there, it is mostly for t-shirts, stickers and mycology supplies for other mushroom enthusiasts. We deliver for free anywhere on Galveston Island (with 8 Mile Road being our cut-off for West End driving), any deliveries outside of this area will include a $10 delivery fee.
Occurring on Thursdays and Sundays, the Galveston's Own Farmers Market is a great destination for all things sustainable, organically and locally grown. Meet directly with the producers and farmers of various assortments of seasonal vegetables, homeopathic products, meats if you catch us there... Mushrooms! Check the GOFM website or our Events & Appearances page to find out when we will be there. Come early, many vendors tend to sell out of the good stuff early. https://galvestonsownfarmersmarket.com/
As we continue to partner with local restaurants, we will provide listings of our partners. We have a rotating stock of gourmets available at harvest times and gourmets do not have the shelf of more hardy styles such as portabellas or regular white caps. For this reason, always look to the Chef's Special of the day to find our fungi.
Be the first to hear about what is in season, our weekly vendor list, and special events.
